What began with the donation and placement of about 5,000 wreaths grew into a national event in 2006 and has now grown to include ceremonies at hundreds of locations across the country involving nearly half a million wreaths.
In addition to the annual Wreaths Across America Statehouse Day, there will be simultaneous wreath-laying ceremonies on Saturday at noon at the veterans cemeteries in Exeter, Lincoln, the West Bay, Harrisville and Scituate.
The event was scheduled take place today in the State Room of the Statehouse and conclude with a wreath-laying ceremony in the Garden of Heroes, located on the southwest grounds of the Statehouse.
